There is a report coming out of TechCrunch that internet giant Yahoo! is preparing a bid to acquire the video platform BrightRoll.
Sources have told TechCrunch that the report deal is worth somewhere between $700 to $725 million. According to these same sources, term sheets have already been executed. There is a rumor that the deal could be worth as much as $1 billion
BrightRoll works with both brands and publishers, allowing them to serve video advertising across desktop, mobile, and connected TV devices.
The TechCrunch report goes further to suggest that Yahoo! is going to try to position itself in order to take on the 800b gorilla Google and its flagship video platform YouTube.
BrightRoll was said to have a run rate of $100 million last year and it is fairly evident that this acquisition will help Yahoo! monetize its YouTube competitor Tumblr.
Yahoo! has declined to comment on the rumor.
There were also rumors last year that Yahoo was considering buying DailyMotion and Hulu.
